CANSail is designed to be a set of progressive learn to sail standards focused on providing sailors with a solid foundation of core skills.
CANSail 1 teaches sailors the fundamental sailing skills including basic sheeting, steering, and boat handling on all points of sail. Sailors can sail within defined boundaries set by an instructor.
CANSail 2 teaches sailors to adjust their bodies and boats for changes in direction and wind speed while sailing, and to perform boat-handling maneuvers in a controlled manner while in a controlled setting.

In order to operate a powered vessel (such as the club's Boston Whaler or Committee boat) within the Port and Harbour of Toronto you need BOTH a Powered Vessel Operator’s Permit (PVOP) and a Pleasure Craft Operator Card.
The PVOP is issued by the Toronto Port Authority. This year they have teamed up with boaterskills.ca to provide training and testing.
This course will consist of an online lesson and test over Zoom on Wednesday, June 21, from 7-9 pm, and a practical on water test at TISC at a later date.
After successfully completing the online test a temporary permit will be issued which is good for the season. Permanent cards will be issued after completing the practical test.
The cost for the general public for this course is $99 + tax, but TISC members can take the course for $75 + tax by registering here:
Virtual Harbour Permit course June 21st - click here to register
The practical test will be scheduled at a later date for participants who successfully complete the online portion.
Prior to the test students will need to get their Pleasure Craft Operating Card (PCOC) which is a pre-requisite when applying for the Harbour Permit. The PCOC can be completed online at freecourse.ca for $24.95.
Please register with us for the PVOP so we know who signed up, as well as through the link above directly with the course provider.
Save the date!

Join your fellow sailors on Canada Day for a Sail Around the Island. A favourite of many members, this event provides an opportunity to sail outside of the inner harbour with a seasoned Skipper.
Plan to be on the 2:00 PM tender or ferry. Space is limited for this sailing event and will be determined by the number of Skippers in attendance. Priority will be given to those who register in advance. Sailing will be dependent on sailing conditions! We will update everyone if there are changes. Please sign up so we know you're sailing!
The BBQ dinner will begin at 6:00 pm. Those interested in attending just the BBQ we ask that you register as well so we have an idea in advance how many people will be in attendance. Friends & family are more than welcome to join us!
Please bring what you would like to BBQ and/or share. Feel free to sign up so we can see what we're bringing! There is also a column for you to indicate if you wish to sail so we can pair sailors together!
After dinner there will be a bonfire (conditions permitting) so bring some marshmallows to roast and if you're ambitious, gram crackers and chocolate to boot.
Look forward to seeing you there!
Join us for an eggs-cellent brunch on the island without dealing with any of the Toronto lineups!
This is a potluck event. We ask those that are participating to share on the google doc what they are bringing so everyone can see!
Some idea starters could include, bagels, bacon, eggs, fruit, Caesars, Mimosas, pancakes, French toast, coffee, etc. If you're looking for more ideas try a little Pinterest or Google search!
See you there!
